Police arrested a Detroit man at an Allegheny Township hotel after searching his hotel room and finding an undisclosed amount of marijuana along with thousands of dollars in cash. The man is in custody on drug charges and child neglect charges pending a July 22nd preliminary hearing.

An ex-convict was arrested this month in connection with the strangling death of an elderly Warren man. As a repeat offender, the suspect faces first-degree murder charges, as well as felony murder and larceny–all with life-changing consequences if convicted.

In an effort to curb drug distribution and illegal gun use in Detroit, law enforcement officials have stepped-up enforcement, looking for suspicious persons breaking minor laws so they can legally question and search them. Despite the good intentions, some Civil Rights organizations claim that the task unit is just designed to racially profile innocent people.

Just because a person is a celebrity, does not mean that their lives are any less affected by being accused of drug charges–they will not only face great legal consequences, but also an arguably more tarnished reputation, being a public figure. Such is the case of a former Michigan State basketball player who was implicated recently for trafficking and possession of drugs.

Even when a person is is a card-holding medical marijuana user, it is still possible for them to be arrested and charged with drug violations, almost certainly resulting in jail time. However, in a possibly precedent-setting decision, the County Circuit Court judge sentenced a card-holding offender to probation instead of time behind bars, citing his lack of criminal history and debilitating medical conditions.

Although the State of Michigan has laws allowing use of marijuana for medical purposes, the manufacture, possession, or distribution of other illicit narcotics is still prohibited. Such an example is seen in a recent case where Michigan police officers arrested a man during a search of his residence, suspecting he was running a drug house.
