Laws in Michigan seem to be endlessly changing, and that can be hard to keep up with!
Michigan law is constantly changing. Every month new laws are introduced, discussed and debated, and passed. But not all laws introduced are passed. And some laws get a lot of media attention, while others slip by under the radar with no one any the wiser. All in all, it can be very difficult to keep up with what’s legal and what isn’t. This year has been a busy year for the legislature.
So far this year, before the legislature broke for the summer, 150 new laws had already been passed. And that’s not including the laws that were passed last year and only went into effect this year. That includes Michigan’s new genital mutilation laws, the “job-hopping cops” laws, and the law protecting athletes by requiring new training for high school coaches. As for laws passed this year that will go into effect later, there are many, including the one where drivers will have to give bicyclists at least three feet of space while passing.

Go even one year without reading the news, and you’ll miss a whole host of legal changes here in Michigan.
