PNC Bank Robbery Suspect Faces Prosecution in Ingham County, MI

Early in March a PNC branch bank on West Mount Hope Avenue in Lansing, Michigan was robbed at gunpoint. The suspect approached a teller and indicated that he had a weapon. The teller handed over an undisclosed amount of cash and the man fled the premises on foot.

Lansing Police officers attempted to track him with a canine unit, but the dog only led them to the tracks left by the get away car. His description was released to the public in the hopes of identification that would lead to an arrest.

An Arrest is Made in Robbery Case

Darryl Sephus Smith, a 47 year old Lansing resident, was recently arrested and then arraigned in 54-A District Court before Judge Hugh Clarke. He was charged with one count of felony bank robbery. He is cited as a habitual offender by police, this being his fourth convicted felony offense.

Smith’s pre-exam conference was held in 54-A District Court on Monday, March 24. His preliminary hearing will be on Friday, March 28. He faces a $ 75,000 cash/surety bond.

Bank robbery, as defined by the Michigan Penal Code, is a felony and is punishable by significant prison time.  Many bank robbery charges are prosecuted in federal court where the penalties are more severe.
