About Corruption Charges in Michigan
A person who attempts to corrupt or corrupts the following:
- A juror;

by offering, giving, or promising any gratuity or gift with the intent to influence that targeted individual’s decision regarding any pending court matter, inquest, or the decision for which the individual was chosen or appointed may be charged with a felony with a maximum penalty of 4 years in prison, a fine up to $5,000.00, or both.
If this violation occurs in a criminal case where the maximum penalty for the defendant is (a) 10 years in prison, or (b) for life in prison or any term of years, then the person faces up to 10 years in prison, a fine up to $20,000.00, or both.
Penalties for Accepting Bribes
Any person summoned as a juror who corruptly receives anything to give his or her verdict, or corruptly receives a gratuity or gift from a party to any cause, suit, or proceeding to sway his or her decision in a trial verdict may be charged with a felony.
Any individual appointed or chosen as a trustee, appraiser, receiver, administrator, commissioner, executor, referee, auditor, or arbitrator who corruptly receives anything to give his or her award, verdict, or report, or who corruptly receives any gift or gratuity from a party to any suit, proceeding, or cause—or for the hearing or determination for which such individual has been chosen or appointed may be charged with a felony as well.
